Next week, the Trump administration is expected to increase existing Section 232 tariffs on aluminum imports from 10% to 25%. The Aluminum Association continues to call for tariff-free access to Canadian aluminum imports in particular to keep growth and investment in the sector on track. The U.S. aluminum industry appreciates the president's efforts to combat unfair trade and needs ready access to affordable metal. Today, about two-thirds of the primary aluminum America uses comes from Canada because we do not have enough domestic smelter capacity—or the energy needed to power more smelters in the near term.
