Aluminum Builds Greener
Aluminum and its alloys are lightweight, strong, durable, corrosion resistant and infinitely recyclable – a perfect choice for sustainable building and construction.
The Aluminum Association has several resources to assist and support aluminum end-users – architects, designers and engineers – in making informed decisions about aluminum products, from third-party validated Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) to the Aluminum in Green Buildings Guidelines Series.
EPDs are used to help earn Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) credit points for green building certification. The Aluminum Industry Environmental Product Declarations include hot-rolled aluminum, cold-rolled aluminum, extruded aluminum, primary ingot and secondary ingot.
A Guide to Green Building Development, released in 2015, was developed to assist stakeholders in understanding how aluminum contributes to green building development and achieving certifications like Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED).
A Guide to Environmental Declarations, released in 2016, supports aluminum stakeholders in understanding how to conduct environmental assessments for aluminum building products and develop environmental declarations.
These resources – in addition to the association’s many other efforts – support the industry’s commitment to sustainability and continuous improvements in aluminum’s environmental efficiency and impacts.
