Revised for 2024 (3rd Edition).  These Guidelines have been published with the aim of helping companies that produce and/or melt cast aluminum shapes to prevent injuries, fatalities, and equipment damage associated with explosions caused by wet, cold, or contaminated cast being charged into molten aluminum in melting furnaces.  The updates to this 3rd Edition of these Guidelines include adding information about safety precautions needed to handle the specifications of working with magnesium and magnesium alloy, adding a section on safety concerns with stacking ingots generally, incorporating figures with color photos, and distinguishing references between aluminum sows, standard ingots, magnesium ingots, and T-ingots where appropriate.
