Aluminum Association Eager to Work with Trump Administration
Industry Shares Goal to Strengthen U.S. Manufacturing, Hold Non-Market Actors Accountable
Charles Johnson, president & CEO of the Aluminum Association, released the below statement following President Donald Trump’s inauguration:
“We congratulate President Trump on his inauguration and look forward to working with his administration on our shared goal of growing and strengthening American manufacturing, including aluminum. President Trump has long recognized that a strong domestic aluminum industry is essential to our economy and defense industrial base, and he was early to take action to support the industry in his first term. And our industry is growing – investing more the $10 billion in new and updated U.S.-based facilities in recent years. This includes building two new greenfield aluminum rolling mills for the first time since 1980. We stand ready to support the administration’s effort to keep U.S. aluminum manufacturing strong.”
The Aluminum Association, which represents companies that make around 70% of the aluminum and aluminum products shipped in North America, recently released Aluminum for America: A Presidential Policy Brief, a new framework laying out strategic policy priorities for the incoming Trump administration and 119th Congress.
This plan tackles the major challenges facing the domestic aluminum sector and emphasizes priorities key for a healthy, competitive U.S. aluminum, including calls to:
- Pursue strong, targeted trade enforcement
- Collect and keep more aluminum for America
- Recognize aluminum as critical for economic and national security
- Invest in America by investing in aluminum
