The Aluminum Association Applauds Canadian Government for Adding Aluminum to Import Monitoring List

Lauren Wilk, Vice President for Policy at the Aluminum Association, issued the following statement following today’s announcement that the Canadian government will add certain aluminum products to its Import Control List (ICL), a monitoring system for imports entering the country.

Quota-Free Removal of Tariffs a Major Victory for North American Aluminum Industry

The leaders of the aluminum associations of North America --  Heidi Brock, President & CEO, The Aluminum Association (U.S.); Fernando A. Garcia, President, IMEDAL (Mexico); Jean Simard, President & CEO, The Aluminium Association of Canada -- released a joint statement following the announced agreement to remove Section 232 tariffs on North American aluminum.

REPORT: U.S. Foil Investments Up After AD/CVD Decision Drives Down Imports from China

Today, the Aluminum Association released a new white paper, Targeted Trade Enforcement in Action: Aluminum Foil AD/CVD One-Year Later, highlighting progress made following the Commerce Department’s final application of antidumping (AD) and countervailing duty (CVD) orders on imports of certain aluminum foil from China. The Commerce Department published final antidumping and countervailing duty orders in the market on April 19, 2018. The report includes new data highlighting a nearly two-thirds drop in imports of unfairly subsidized Chinese aluminum foil and $169 million in U.S. investment in the segment.

Historic China Trade Talks an Opportunity to Address Structural Aluminum Overcapacity

ARLINGTON, VA – The Aluminum Association today released a letter urging the administration to continue its focus on addressing “market-distorting forces, including subsidies and state-owned enterprises,” in the ongoing U.S.-China trade negotiations. Pervasive subsidies and other trade-distorting policies in China have manifested in structural overcapacity across the aluminum value chain.

U.S. Aluminum Industry Files Unfair Trade Cases Against Imports of Aluminum Foil from Five Countries

The Aluminum Association’s Foil Trade Enforcement Working Group today filed antidumping and countervailing duty petitions charging that unfairly traded imports of aluminum foil from five countries are causing material injury to the domestic industry. In April of 2018, the U.S. Department of Commerce published antidumping and countervailing duty orders on similar foil products from China.
